Is your kitchen drain constantly clogged to the point that you need an emergency plumber almost immediately? Don’t wait until you can’t get a remote plumber. There may be some other reasons for this that you aren’t investigating yet.

It is likely that your kitchen will develop drainage problems, but you could be the cause. Faults like these can often worsen quickly and cost you a lot of money. In minutes, a flooded kitchen can become a flooded house, causing you to lose your property.

You may be the potential cause, most likely due to a lack of information. Don’t feel too bad if you fall into this category. Let me run you through the pros and cons of using your kitchen drain.

Firstly, let’s see what you’re not doing correctly.

Cons of drains:

1. Unloading huge amounts of waste at once

Different types and sizes of wastes are generated by you. Select the types of items you dispose of carefully before you flush them down your drain. Clogging your kitchen drain is easily accomplished by unloading a lot of solid waste into it. Food wastes like eggshells, yam peels, etc., should not be thrown away in the kitchen sink.

2. Down the Drain Various Substances

What type of substance do you put down there? Are you cautious enough about it? Maybe now is the time. Grease and cooking oil should not be drained through your kitchen sink. When grease goes down, it’s a matter of time before it solidifies and traps other wastes you’ll be draining in the future.

Starches and fibrous food materials should also not be poured down the drain. When disposed of, starchy foods (like rice, pasta, etc.) and fibrous foods (like rhubarb, potato peels, etc.) become molten and form a clog.

3. Having a lot of dirty plates, pans, and pots in your sink at the same time

Apart from being unhygienic, this is also harmful to your drain and prevents long-lastingness. Plates containing food remains and other debris can eventually fill up your kitchen drain, impeding water flow and other substances.

4. Picking the wrong sink and placing it in the wrong place

If you’re planning your kitchen layout, the placement and size of your sink should be carefully considered. A good location makes it more functional. In the absence of this, your sink placement will be difficult to manage due to its non-convenience.

It is also possible to misuse and clog your drains when you use a small sink for larger dishwashing tasks.

Pros of drainage:

1. Run wastes down the drain with water

Using this method prevents the accumulation of waste down your drain. If you want to get rid of substances completely, run cool water down the sink after every disposal.

2. Keep Your Dishwasher Clean

The filter basket should always be cleared after each wash. Avoid placing debris in the sink when doing so. When doing this, ensure that it’s completely flushed.

3. Use water efficiently

Furthermore, you should always wash your dishes with cold or relatively warm water. As a result, food remnants and other substances are carried further along your pipes to the drain site.

4. Performing regular drain and pipe maintenance

Establishing a routine maintenance schedule can help you prevent drain and pipe clogs. You should constantly check and test the flow of water through your drains.

It is possible to apply an enzymatic product gently as a method of maintenance. These products fight bacteria and dissolve substances that block drains.

5. Plunge your clogs with a plunger

Plunging is an effective way to clear clogs. You can remove clogs using a plunger that fits well in your pipe or drain.

6. Speak with a professional

Your plumber is the professional in this case. Your plumber can help you with kitchen drainage maintenance, pipe repairs, and clog removal. Don’t hesitate to call the professionals if you need assistance. If you don’t, you could make things worse.

Minor drain problems may take some time to be detected. Drain usage and setting play an important role in its durability and efficiency. A professional plumber should be consulted for most complicated situations.
